My belief is that anyone can learn to draw, it just takes desire to do so and instruction. With this in mind I have created step-by-step instructions for drawing things we see around us using simple shapes.

When working with students, I tell them that if they can draw circles, squares and triangles they can draw just about anything they can see. Almost every child that I have taught from kindergarten to grade twelve can draw these three shapes.

I am also aware that to some children an eraser symbolizes mistakes. My step-by-step drawing program is set up in such a way that the child will not have to erase any lines. What they draw stays as part of the final picture and erasing is not necessary.

Success is a big part of my mission when it comes to drawing, and the methods that I use guarantee that even those who think they can't draw, can.

I was fortunate to grow up in an environment where art was encouraged and indeed practiced. My father painted with oils and later used pen and ink as his medium. I was exposed to the world of art early and encouraged to enter shows alongside my father's works.

At the age of 16 I had my first sale of my own artwork and have continued to sell my work ever since. I graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. Shortly after that I got a Graphic Arts certificate and combined that with my love for photography.

I married a primary school teacher and saw first hand that most teachers experienced challenges when trying to teach art. I developed a teaching method which has since proven to be very successful for both students and teachers alike. I have been going into the classroom to teach children since the year 2000 and have also been invited to speak at various teachers'conferences.

I have also published three books, one photographic and two drawing books. I am a member of the National Art Education Association as well as the North American Nature Photographers Association and the Professional Photographers Association of British Columbia.

If you should be interested in having me come to your school or to a teachers'workshop please feel free to contact me.

Thank you

"Stephan was encouraging and started with simple shapes and then added to the complexity of their drawings. Stephan was able to inspire several of my students to draw at home and to look forward to his visit the following week so they could show him some of their own sketches. Stephan's visits to my classroom were a positive event and I would highly recommend Stephan as a visiting artist to any other classroom."
